At WRECC, member bills are based on actual usage over a billing period, typically 30 days. We use modern and proven metering technology to ensure that your bill is accurate.
WHEN IS MY METER READ?
Member meters are read once per month. Using what we call “reading routes”, we read approximately 3,000 member accounts per work day.
The readings are grouped into billing cycles to create electric bills for our residential and commercial members.
Since meter reads for each cycle occur on a different day, this can create some confusion between members when they compare each other’s bills because average temperatures for each cycle are not usually the same.
HOW IS MY METER READ?
At WRECC, we use an automatic meter reading (AMR) system. AMR meters contain low-power radio transmitters (much weaker than a cell phone), that send a signal to a passing utility vehicle. Our utility vehicles are equipped with a receiver which captures and stores the data signal from the meters as the vehicle passes by the home or business. This automation is more efficient and helps us keep rates low for our members.
HOW FAR CAN THE METER SIGNAL BE READ?
WRECC’s meters can be read from a few hundred feet to several thousand feet (up to a mile), depending on foliage and line of sight.
HOW ACCURATE IS MY METER?
WRECC is committed to making sure our equipment is in top working condition and reads as accurately as possible. Meters are audited once every two years to check for failures, damages, and/or tampering.
Each year, we field test approximately 2% of our residential meters to ensure their accuracy is within a half of a percent (½%).
