Power Quality

INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE
The Cooperative will use reasonable diligence in providing consistent and uninterrupted power; however, your Cooperative cannot guarantee power without interruptions or disturbances.

It is the member's responsibility to provide appropriate protection for their equipment. This protection should be in accordance with the National Electrical Code and include the following conditions: overload, loss of voltage (any duration), abnormal voltage (any duration), loss of phase, re-establishment of normal service after any of the above, phase renewal, motors which will not be subjected to full voltage starting, electronic controls, computer-aided equipment, etc.

BREAKER OPERATIONS
The Cooperative maintains approximately 5,700 miles of power lines which are exposed to natural and man-made damage or destruction. To keep outage time to a minimum and protect our lines, automatic reset devices (breakers) are used. If an animal, tree limb, or other object contacts the line, the breaker operates (up to three times) to restore power. Breaker operations often cause digital clocks and other electronic devices to reset to 12:00 and blink until reset. Some appliances contain battery back ups which prevent this.

One of the main reasons for service interruptions and breaker operations is tree limbs coming into contact with power lines. If you see limbs touching power lines, notify Warren RECC. When planting trees, be sure to set them away from power lines to avoid future interruptions.

Breaker operations often affect electronic devices or computer-controlled equipment. Special provisions may be necessary to afford adequate protection for this type of equipment.

VOLTAGE FLUCTUATIONS
Members must not use their electric service in such a manner as to cause fluctuations or disturbances to the Cooperative's system. The Cooperative may require a member, at the member's expense, to install suitable equipment to reasonably limit such fluctuations.

METER TESTING
The Cooperative tests and inspects electric meters periodically to be sure they maintain high standards of accuracy. Members requesting to have meters tested are asked to pay $25 to cover the costs of the testing.

For assistance in solving power quality problems, call your local Warren RECC office.
