Members' Responsibility for Warren RECC Property

All meters, service connections and other equipment furnished by the Cooperative are the property of the Cooperative. Members provide a space and protection for the property. In the event of loss or damage from neglect by a member, the cost of repairs or replacement will be paid by the member.

RIGHT OF ACCESS TO MEMBERS' PROPERTY
Cooperative employees need access to members' premises at all times for the purpose of reading meters, testing, inspecting, repairing, removing, or exchanging equipment belonging to the Cooperative. This includes safe, clear access to the electric meter and other Warren RECC equipment.

Locked gates, doors and aggressive dogs prevent safe, clear access to Cooperative equipment. Whenever locked gates are necessary, members are asked to contact Warren RECC about adding our lock or making arrangements to insure our employees have access to Cooperative equipment.

METER TAMPERING/ENERGY THEFT
Who pays? When a thief tampers with a utility meter to steal energy, other members must pay for the stolen energy. Our employees are trained to detect signs of meter tampering, and we will prosecute those involved.

Under Kentucky law, unauthorized use of power through meter tampering or unlawfully reconnecting electric service disconnected by Warren RECC could result in a fine of up to $10,000. The cost of energy stolen or equipment damaged may also be recovered. It is not necessary to be caught in the act in order to be prosecuted for meter tampering or unauthorized reconnection involving a meter in member's possession.

If you suspect anyone of meter tampering, report it to your Cooperative. The information will be kept confidential, and you could help save money for yourself and other honest members. You also may be saving someone's life because of high-voltage hazards.

If an electrician or contractor working in your home or business needs access to the meter, contact Warren RECC for instructions. No one, except Warren RECC employees, is authorized to cut a seal or remove a meter. By checking with us first, you can prevent unintentional involvement in meter tampering investigations.
