Right-Of-Way Program

Warren Rural Electric Cooperative owns and maintains over 5,700 miles of power lines that deliver electricity to homes and businesses in the eight-county area of southcentral Kentucky served by the Cooperative. These power lines must remain clear of obstructions to make sure our product, electricity, is delivered continually--without any interruptions. Our member-customers expect and deserve continuous, reliable power. In order to provide this, we must keep the power line rights-of-way clear of trees and other vegetation that cause power outages.

If you are a Warren RECC member-customer with trees on your property that are growing into the high voltage (7,200 volts to 69,000 volts) power lines, they are a potential cause of power outages for you and your neighbors. These high-voltage power lines are not insulated. They remain safe simply because of the distance they are from the ground (and trees).

Trees are the number one cause of power outages. When trees and other obstructions come in contact with the power lines, outages can occur and a hazard is created for those who may come in contact with them. Trees also represent a dangerous liability for the property owner as well as the utility.

LOOK UP BEFORE PLANTING
When planting trees, consider the problems and liability of trees growing into the power lines. If you are not sure of the height of the trees at maturity, consult your local nursery or contact Warren RECC's Right-of-way Supervisor Terry Price at 270-842-6541, Extension 1106 or any Warren RECC office.
